Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and Obama Administration Announce Agreement to Improve Care for Oregonians on Medicaid

May 3, 2012 --Governor Kitzhaber and the Obama Administration today announced an agreement in principle to coordinate care for Medicaid beneficiaries in Oregon, through a new model of care that will reduce the cost trend in Oregon’s Medicaid program by at least two percentage points within two years while improving health outcomes.

Adventist Health, Regence and Tuality Healthcare Announce Individual Health Care Partnership

April 23, 2012 -- Adventist Health, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon and Tuality Healthcare have entered into a partnership to provide in-network care to select Individual members in the Portland metropolitan area.Beginning October 1, 2012, select Regence Individual members will be transitioned from their current PPO network to one of two Oregon Select networks in a move designed to provide members continued quality care and monthly premium affordability.

Premera Tries to Gut Drug Benefits, Kreidler Says No

May 1, 2012 -- Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has denied requests from Premera Blue Cross (Premera) to strip some of its health plans of vital prescription drug coverage.Premera filed a request last week to remove all prescription drug coverage from its small employer plans. These are plans sold to employers with 1-50 employees. It also filed rates for adding several benefits to its individual plans but did not file the requiredcontract language.

Mountain View Hospital and St. Charles Announce Intention to Deepen Relationship

May 1, 2012 -- The boards of directors for Mountain View Hospital District and St. Charles Health System are evaluating ways to deepen the relationship between the two organizations.St. Charles has provided management services to Mountain View since 1998, which includes employing the CEO and CFO and providing leadership expertise to the board of directors. Culturally Tailored Program Helps Mexican-American Women Lose Weight

April 30, 2012 —Mexican-American women who participated in a culturally tailored weight management program lost weight, reduced their fat and sugar consumption and improved their eating habits according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health and published in the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health. At the end of the year-long De Por Vida (“For Life”) program, the women had lost an average of nearly 16 pounds.

Kaiser Permanente Northwest Presents the Portland Free Premier of HBO’s Documentary 'The Weight of the Nation'

April 27, 2012 -- WHAT: The obesity epidemic affects 97 million Americans and contributes to six of the 10 leading causes of death in this country. More than two-thirds of U.S. adults age 20 and over are overweight or obese, while one-third of the nation’s children and adolescents age two to 19 are overweight or obese. This epidemic hasbecome one of the most urgent health issues affecting our nation.To address this rising concern, Kaiser Permanente will host a free screening of HBO’s four part series, THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION, on May 7, 2012, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
