June 13, 2012 -- The Portland InterHospital Physicians Association (Portland IPA), Oregon’s largest physician group comprising more than 2,600 primary care and specialty physicians, has implemented a Harvard-based leadership initiative to help physicians better manage the business and administrative aspects of their practices. The Portland
IPA used Harvard's curriculum to connect physicians in diverse specialties to improve clinical and financial performance.

Recommendations for physicians and patients offered by RS Medical as CMS issues decision for widely used TENS therapy

June 13, 2012 -- RS Medical today reacted to news that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a Final Decision Memorandum restricting coverage for a popular, non-invasive, inexpensive pain therapy called Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). This notice is expected to result in a national coverage decision later this year. TENS is delivered to the lower back by using a small stimulation device that's mobile or can be used at home.

OHSU Study: Misdiagnosis of MS is Costing Health System Millions Per Year

Study finds most MS experts surveyed have seen patients in last year who've been misdiagnosed

May 9, 2012 -- It is relatively common for doctors to diagnose someone
with multiple sclerosis when the patient doesn't have the disease — a
misdiagnosis that not only causes patients potential harm but costs the
U.S. health care system untold millions of dollars a year, according to a
study published online today in the journal Neurology.

The study is based on a survey of 122 multiple sclerosis specialists
nationwide and was conducted by researchers at Oregon Health
& Science University and the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical

Oregon Department of Justice Announces $100 Million Consumer Protection Pharmaceutical Agreement

Oregon will receive $3.9 million under the national consumer protection settlement agreement with Chicago-based Abbott Laboratories

May 7, 2012 -- Oregon Attorney General John Kroger today announced a $100 million multistate agreement with global health care and medical
research company Abbott Laboratories over off-label promotional claims
related to its drug Depakote®. This agreement marks the largest ever
consumer protection-based pharmaceutical settlement.

“Protecting consumers from drug companies that use unscrupulous sales tactics is a top priority of the Department of Justice,” said Attorney General Kroger.

May 7, 2012 -- ‘LifeWorks NW has announced the appointment of Bonnie Holdahl, to the new position of medical services administrator for the organization. Holdahl had been serving as Health Center manager for Planned Parenthood of the Columbia Willamette.
