Consumer Advocates Create Watchdog Group to Monitor CCO Development

April 27, 2012—Healthcare and social justice advocates are joining together to form an ad- hoc “CCO Watchdog” group to closely monitor the implementation of coordinated care organizations throughout the state and advocate on behalf of Oregon Health Plan members.

The Oregon Center for Public Policy and Oregon Action are spearheading the effort.

March 19, 2012 -- PacificSource is proposing to raise rates an average of 5.56% on small businesses, affecting 35,224 Oregonians enrolled in coverage through a small business employer. The insurer will explain its justification for the rate increase at a hearing held by the Oregon Insurance Division.

March 6, 2012 -- Consumers might see decent affordable coverage on the horizon, now that Oregon lawmakers have given the green light for the new Health Insurance Exchange.

 “This is good news for consumers,” said Laura Etherton, OSPIRG health insurance advocate, “But our work has only begun – the devil will be in the details.”

Passage of the exchange law marks the beginning of the next phase in setting up Oregon’s new health insurance marketplace, a phase that consumers and small businesses will be watching closely.

OSPIRG Says Regence BlueCross BlueShield Must Justify Proposed Rate Increase

January 12, 2012 -- Before the Insurance Division approves the rate request for small employers by Regence BlueCross BlueShield, it needs to justify those increases, according to Laura Etherton, healthcare advocate for OSPIRG Foundation.
