Oregon Selected For a National Pilot Project to Improve the Use of Psychotropic Medications Among Children in Foster Care

Multi-year quality improvement initiative awarded based on state’s progress

April 13, 2012 -- Oregon continues efforts to ensure the most appropriate use of psychotropic medications in the child welfare system. Based on this progress, the Department of Human Services (DHS) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) announced today that Oregon has been chosen as one of five states that will be part of a national pilot project focused on improving use of medication among children and adolescents in foster care with mental and behavioral health needs.

March 6, 2012 – On March 2, Governor Kitzhaber signed SB 1580, which will launch Coordinated Care Organizations to better serve Oregon Health Plan members with a focus on improved health.

Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) will bring better health, better care and lower costs to the more than 600,000 Oregonians served by the Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) with a focus on improved wellness, prevention, and integration of behavioral, physical and ultimately oral health care.

November 16, 2011 --Almost 70 percent of Oregon tobacco users want to quit, and those who use the free Oregon Tobacco Quit Line have a better chance of breaking their addiction for good. New online coaching services, in addition to phone coaching, make the Quit Line more convenient and accessible than ever.

August 19, 2010 -- The Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Health Policy Board will host six community meetings around the state in early September to solicit public comment.

These meetings will provide opportunities for public input on Oregon's Comprehensive Plan for Health Reform and for the Health Insurance Exchange, a central marketplace for purchasing health insurance.

Each meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the following cities:
