Nurses Association Supports Drive to Amend Constitution

Red-shirted citizen activists of Health Care for All Oregon packed the hearing room in a special evening meeting of the House Health Committee to lend support to Rep. Mitch Greenlick’s ballot push to declare healthcare a fundamental right for Oregonians.

As she testified Wednesday night, Carolanne Fry said it should’ve been her mother’s 53rd birthday. Instead, it was the third anniversary of her funeral, her life cut short of cancer, a condition she only learned of a few months before her death.

Next Steps for Single Payer Unclear While Dembrow Keeps Fighting

The state senator told Healthcare for All Oregon that a single-payer bill will need bipartisan support in the Oregon Legislature.

Sen. Michael Dembrow (D-Portland) told members of Health Care for All Oregon Saturday afternoon that he plans to keep fighting to bring single-payer healthcare to the state – although the next steps remain unclear. 

Advocates Appear Before Portland City Council on Providence Park Naming Rights

Led by Health Care for All, advocates are demanding to know how much Providence Health & Services paid for the naming rights and believe those dollars should have gone toward patient care.

Single-Payer Healthcare May Go Before Voters in 2016

A previous ballot measure to create a single-payer system failed in 2002, but activists say they'd try to head that off with a better education campaign

June 20, 2013 – Supporters of a single-payer healthcare system may decide to put the issue before voters in 2016, depending on what members of the statewide coalition who were behind this year's failed single-payer bill in the Oregon Legislature decide at next week's annual meeting.
