Officials Hope to Curtail Rise of Insurance Costs Under ACA

Lawmakers and public officials are holding closed door meetings to create a state reinsurance program that would keep in tow exorbitant insurance increases next year

February 27, 2013 -- Concerns have been mounting by lawmakers and public officials that once the Affordable Care Act kicks in next January, those who purchase their own health insurance will face exorbitant prices.

Governor Kitzhaber Statement on $226 Million Federal Grant for Cover Oregon

January 17, 2013  Governor Kitzhaber released the following statement after learning Cover Oregon was granted $226 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:

"Today Cover Oregon, our state’s health insurance exchange, announced that Oregon has received $226 million in grant funding over the next two years from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This is a strong vote of confidence from our federal partners.

Cover Oregon to Visit Bend Nov. 7

Bend – The Bend community will have an opportunity to meet the Cover Oregon Board of Directors and staff and offer their ideas at an upcoming event. Cover Oregon will hold a community meeting the evening of Nov. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. At the meeting, board and staff members will provide an overview of Cover Oregon as well as seek input from community members on its development. The next day, Nov. 8, the Cover Oregon Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Bend.
