Governor sticks with COVID-19 vaccination schedule despite critics, including the group representing Oregon hospitals.

With nearly 1.4 million people already in line, the Vaccine Advisory Committee recommended that BIPOC communities and people with underlying conditions -- totally 2.5 million people -- should follow seniors.

The governor urged Oregon to prepare for a long haul with the pandemic and said she would back a proposal to cap the rise in health care costs statewide at 3.4%.

The area was late in adding seniors 65 and older to its eligibility list along with 50-year-olds in multigenerational households but is now on par with the rest of the state.

The outbreak is the latest to affect patients and staff working in a hospital in Oregon or Southwest Washington.

A retired school teacher with health conditions told The Lund Report that “if I get this I die,” referring to the novel coronavirus.

Now, during a once-in-a-century pandemic, President Joe Biden has promised to provide 100 million COVID-19 vaccinations in his first 100 days in office.

The site, which is being organized by Kaiser Permanente, will open Wednesday and operate through Saturday. It will reopen Monday with three other health care companies.

Issues related to the pandemic are certain to dominate the session but there are plenty of other proposals in the works, including legislation on a public option.

Fewer than 100 infections from the strain have been identified in the United States yet federal officials worry it could be the dominant form of the virus by March.
