Why You Should Support The Lund Report

Your support has made it possible for us to become the most vital source of health news in Oregon.
October 15, 2014

Who imagined, just five years ago, that The Lund Report would rise to become the most vital source of health news in Oregon, going behind the scenes to reveal what’s going on inside the industry – and remaining independent!

Well you – our faithful readers did – by generously supporting our vital work.

As we grow our community of informed readers, we remain committed to achieving a more transparent healthcare system in Oregon. We give voice to industry insiders and everyday people committed to healthier communities, and we inspire our readers to remain engaged in the healthcare issues that impact our lives.

Two weeks ago, we opened our jobs board, Health Hires, linking health care employers with job-seekers, interns and volunteers.

But, our work is far from over! With the Medicaid expansion boom and people flooding into coordinated care organizations, along with the failure of Cover Oregon to remain viable, there’s an immense need to stay on top of the latest developments.

The healthcare industry is also about to witness a major change with Moda Health leading the way after creating a new endeavor, Synergy Health, and bringing together the major hospitals and physician groups, to thrust itself onto the competitive stage, starting with the public employees contract.

Your support makes it possible for us to keep our eyes focused on the health industry. Please consider making a tax deductible contribution today using a major credit card, your PayPal account or sending a check to The Lund Report at POB 82841, Portland 97282. I’ll be pleased to send you a receipt for tax purposes because The Lund Report is recognized as a nonprofit (501-c-3) by the IRS.

Since I created The Lund Report five years ago, I have never accepted a salary or any other renumeration for my work as its editor, and all the dollars we raise go directly to our wonderful professional staff of reporters, our website designer and developer who do a fantastic job providing you with the most critical stories about our healthcare industry.

We need to raise $35,000 by December 15, and we’re counting on you to reach our goal.

Today, The Lund Report reaches more than 20,000 people throughout the Pacific Northwest, while our readership continues to grow each week.

Because of your generosity, The Lund Report has brought together a team of professional and award-winning reporters led by Chris Gray who continues to win plaudits in his legislative coverage, while Courtney Sherwood provides us with in-depth analysis of hospitals and health insurers – stories you won’t see elsewhere.

The Lund Report also won top honors from the annual Oregon Excellence in Journalism competition sponsored by the Society for Professional Journalism. Our website received third-place recognition in the Best Website - Specialized Subject category. And contributor Courtney Sherwood received third-place recognition in the Investigative Reporting category for her article "Are Oregon Hospitals Safe Places to Work," which looked at workplace safety inspections -- and revealed that Oregon's OSHA violation fines are among the lowest in the country. Awards are for work completed during the 2013 calendar year.
