New Research Shows People with Cancer, Heart Disease, Other Serious Conditions Forced to Pay 10 Times More Than Necessary for Medication

 

July 11, 2013 -- Oregonians with cancer, heart disease, epilepsy and other conditions have been forced to pay an average of 10 times more than necessary for at least 20 blockbuster drugs, according to a report released today by the Oregon State Public Interest Research Group (OSPIRG) and Community Catalyst.

March 19, 2012 -- PacificSource is proposing to raise rates an average of 5.56% on small businesses, affecting 35,224 Oregonians enrolled in coverage through a small business employer. The insurer will explain its justification for the rate increase at a hearing held by the Oregon Insurance Division.

March 6, 2012 -- Consumers might see decent affordable coverage on the horizon, now that Oregon lawmakers have given the green light for the new Health Insurance Exchange.

 “This is good news for consumers,” said Laura Etherton, OSPIRG health insurance advocate, “But our work has only begun – the devil will be in the details.”

Passage of the exchange law marks the beginning of the next phase in setting up Oregon’s new health insurance marketplace, a phase that consumers and small businesses will be watching closely.
