JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Mental Health Counselor will provide counseling, case management, group counseling, and ongoing clinical support for clients in an outpatient treatment program for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES  AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Direct Client Support
    • Conduct detailed mental health assessments and intakes of children, youth and/or adults.
    • Develop individually tailored treatment plans with clients.
    • Be familiar with evidenced-based practices such as: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Seeking Safety, and implement clinically indicated interventions.
    • Provide individual and group clinical services including case management, skills training and coordination of care, as directed by individual treatment plans.
    • Refer and link clients to community agencies such as primary care, social services, and mental health.
    • Identify, respond to, and monitor risk situations.
    • Abide by company and program policies and procedures, confidentiality laws, professional boundaries, and relevant federal/state regulations and standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Produce accurate and timely strength-based documentation demonstrating clinical knowledge that is in alignment with agency protocols and payor regulations. 
    • Maintain client records to ensure compliance with agency and contract guidelines and confidentiality.
    • Utilize collaborative documentation to elicit patient engagement and recovery-based language.
  • Other
    • This position may require handling and disposal of needles as part of clean-up duties, necessitating adherence to proper safety protocols to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe working environment.
    • Complete other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  1. This position typically requires at least a Master's Degree from an accredited graduate program.
  2. Must be licensed, or licensed eligible, under the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT).
    • Be certified through the Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) if you are not yet able to be licensed as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW.
  3. Possess, or have applied for, a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  4. Comply with the ethics and standards as identified by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.
  5. Possess knowledge of the DSM V and ICD 10 diagnoses and codes.
  6. Must have reliable transportation or maintain a valid driver’s license for the state of residency and have a driving record permitting coverage under the corporate liability policy.  If driving a personal vehicle for work purposes must also have and maintain personal auto liability coverage.  All employees driving for work purposes, regardless of whether driving a personal or agency vehicle, must complete the agency’s driving approval process before they drive for work.
  7. At least 2 years of work experience in clinical mental health services.
  8. At least 1 year of work experience in SUD services.
  9. Ability to effectively use most features of Google Workspace and Microsoft Suites.
  10. Ability to create detailed reports as requested.
  11. Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  12. Excellent communication, trauma-informed approach and conflict resolution skills.
  13. Well-developed documentation skills and a strong commitment to quality management; ability to write accurate and concise reports while meeting tight deadlines.
  14. Must be dependable, flexible and punctual, and exhibit strong time management skills.
  15. Able to clearly articulate information to people of varying cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds. Able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing.
  16. Able to problem solve and develop creative approaches.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. CADC I, II, or III
  2. CRM
  3. At least 2 years work experience in a clinical SUD treatment environment.
  4. Knowledge of psychotropic medications.
