The president of ODS and senior vice president for Moda Health, Dr. Bill Ten Pas, is stepping down next January after joining the company in 2002.

Ten Pas, who was contacted by The Lund Report, said he intends to “rebalance his life” after retiring and will remain on several boards and also be a consultant.

At ODS, he has held key leadership roles and oversees the Dental Services Group which includes Oregon Dental Service; Dental Professional Relations; Nordic Insurance; Dentists Benefits Insurance Company and Dentists Benefits Corporation; the ODS Dental Hygiene School in LaGrande, ODS Benefits and Eligibility; the Tooth Taxi  and the Dentist’s Management Corporation.

Ten Pas, who served as president and trustee of the American Dental Associaton, testified before a House Appropriations Committee during his tenure, urging Congress not to cut back programs that would hurt dentists and the delivery of dental care.

According to an article that appeared in Dental Economics, Ten Pas told Congress he was concerned about the downsizing of the federal government because it would have adversely impacted dental programs that rely on federal funds.

He also talked about the problem faced by replacing dentists with nondentists in leadership positions in dental programs. . "Our experience shows that only a dentist can fully appreciate the clinical peculiarities of the discipline and help address quality-of-care concerns faced by dental practitioners,” he told Congress.

Ten Pas, who was a practicing dentist for over 25 years in Corvallis, was also president of the Oregon Dental Association, the Oregon Academy of General Dentistry and chaired the Corvallis School Board.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University and received his dental degree from the University of Oregon Dental School.
