Dr. George Brown couldn’t hold back his exuberance when welcoming Mady Murrey as the new chief administrative officer of Randall Children’s Hospital.

“We have a wonderful new leader,” Brown, CEO of Legacy Health, told colleagues and board members at a reception last week. “Mady has a long and esteemed career in pediatrics, and we’re extremely fortunate to have her. She’s level headed, always smiling, honest, full of energy and persistent. I couldn’t think of a better person to lead this hospital. She truly cares about children.”

When Murrey took the stage, she emphasized the pressing challenge facing children who are projected to have a shorter life span than their parents due to chronic health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

“We need to stop it,” she told the guests. “We need to partner with the community to change the health of our children. Together we can create a healthier generation of children.”

Murrey has 30 years of experience in pediatric healthcare, and most recently was the chief operating officer at MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center in Tacoma.

At Randall Children’s Hospital, she succeeds Carla Harris, RN, who was chief administrative officer for 16 years.

Randall has a medical staff of more than 600 physicians, including pediatric medical and surgical specialists, sub-specialists, hospitalist and community pediatricians, With 165 beds, it’s the largest children’s hospital in Oregon, receiving more than 170,000 annual patient visits.
