The Lund Report Goes Beyond the Mark

There’s no other media outlet in Oregon where you can find the most comprehensive and up-to-date news and analysis about Oregon’s healthcare system.
April 19, 2013

April 19, 2013 -- As we embark on our 5th year as the major source of news and analysis about Oregon’s healthcare system, The Lund Report is stronger than ever. Each week, we bring you articles about the healthcare bills winding their way through the Oregon Legislature and public health initiatives such as the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank. And we’ve been keeping our pulse on the finances of Oregon’s major hospitals and the insurance industry.

Such coverage doesn’t happen overnight. It takes hard work by our experienced news reporters who delve into the facts, analyzing data and interviewing multiple sources.

Today I encourage you to help us continue this important and valuable work by making a tax-deductible donation to The Lund Report. You can either use your credit card or send a check to POB 82841, Portland, OR 97202. None of your contributions will end up in my pocket because -- as many of you know -- I’ve refused to accept a salary or other compensation since launching The Lund Report in April 2009.

At the state Capitol, compliments keep pouring in commending the work of our legislative news reporter Christopher David Gray, from both sides of the aisle including Democratic Senator Chip Shields, Republican Rep. Jason Conger and Democratic Rep. Michael Dembrow – as well as from disparate groups such as the Latino Health Coalition, Oregon Action, the Oregon Health Care Association, the Oregon Ambulatory Surgery Centers and the Oregon Pharmacists Association.

“I have been able to cover stories that may have affected the course of the healthcare debate in the state Legislature by providing a fair and factual analysis of important bills, including one that would protect Oregon children from toxic chemicals in toys and another that would give consumers, businesses and the Oregon attorney general the right to sue insurers when they commit fraud,” Chris said. “I’m often the only one providing independent reporting on many healthcare issues, including scope of practice and the lobbying efforts of the insurance industry to tilt the playing field in their favor.”

Now it's your turn – our readers – to show your support so that we can continue bringing you top-notch and in-depth news coverage. Our latest statistics from Google Analytics indicates that more than 30,000 people from across the Pacific Northwest read The Lund Report on a regular basis. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today!

Recently Dr. Samuel Metz donated $1,000 to The Lund Report because he believes investigative journalism is in danger. “What we call a ‘free press’ is not always free – it is primarily driven by advertisers. I want The Lund Report to be free of the financial interests of advertisers,” he told us. “Freedom isn’t free. Neither is a free press. They require ongoing vigilance and, in this case, our money. I can afford $1,000 to protect our free press. How much can you afford?”

So well stated – The Lund Report has never accepted an advertisement but does rely on readers such as yourself to remain strong. As a way of encouraging you to make a donation, our board of directors has decided to offer a few supporter benefits, which you can read about here

Thanks for your continued support. Together we can make a difference and create a more accountable and transparent healthcare system that’s affordable and accessible to everyone.

My deepest thanks!
