SAIF Corporation will soon have a new leader. Kerry Barnett becomes its CEO and president taking over from John Gilkey. With more than 600,000 workers covered by its workers’ compensation coverage, SAIF dominates that insurance market and has more than $4.3 billion in total assets and 800 employees.

Barnett has been executive vice president of corporate services and chief legal officer for Cambia Health Solutions, the parent company of the Regence plans in Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Washington. As such, he has provided leadership and strategic direction for communications, public policy and public affairs, human resources, marketing, and ethics and compliance for Cambia.

Last year, Barnett earned $395,246 from Regence BlueCross BlueShield in Oregon and $490,670 from Regence BlueShield in Washington for a total of $885.870. His compensation from the Regence plans in Idaho and Utah has not been disclosed by the insurance commissioners in those states.

Barnett is on the board of governors for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute. He sits on the Public Policy Committee and on the Strategic Communications Advisory Council of America's Health Insurance Plans. He also serves on the Legal Division Co-op Board of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. In the community, Kerry serves on boards for the Portland Business Alliance, United Way and the Cambia Health Foundation, and as an Oregon Business council deputy.

Before joining Cambia, Barnett held senior executive positions with ODS Health Plans, HealthFirst Medical Group, and served Oregon as the insurance commissioner and as the governor's legal counsel and senior policy advisor. He received his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Rochester and received his law degree from Yale Law School. Diane can be reached at [email protected].
