Even though the effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act still needs to make its way through the U.S. Senate, the final version could have a huge impact on mental health and addiction services which are considered essential benefits that health insurers must cover.
That’s what Congressman Earl Blumenauer will be discussing when he headlines the Oregon Health Forum breakfast on May 31.
Along with the Congressman, local officials will take a look at what it takes to meet the growing needs of the poorest mentally ill in Oregon. Currently, the coordinated care organizations and county agencies are devoting resources to develop a more integrated delivery of mental health resources.
Our panelists will also tackle the questions of who’s responsible for delivering mental health care, and how to reduce administrative costs so funds can be directed to mental healthcare and addiction interventions.

Tickets are still available, but are selling fast for the panel discussion, titled: Mental Health Can Counties and CCOs Work for Better Mental Health? The breakfast event runs from 7-9 a.m. on May 31 at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland.
Jason Renaud, board member with the Mental Health Association of Portland, will moderate. In addition to Blumenauer, panelists include:
- Joanne Fuller, director of the Multnomah County Health Department.
- Janet Meyer, CEO of Health Share Oregon, and.
- Morgan O'Toole, CEO of The Kartini Clinic.
Following the moderator-led discussion with panelists, audience members will have an opportunity to ask their own questions.
