February 6, 2012 -- WVP Health Authority is seeking a $6.3 million grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to launch a “Power of Wellness” project as part of its ongoing commitment to create a quality community-based care organization for the Mid-Willamette Valley.

February 6, 2012 -- Delegates from 28 unions, nonprofits and grassroots organizations gathered in Portland on Friday, January 27, to form a new coalition that will advocate for universal health care in Oregon and the U.S. Seven labor unions joined with 21 community organizations to sign the membership agreement, approve bylaws, and elect an interim executive committee.

February 6, 2012 -- Technology is changing so quickly that state officials and advocates overseeing more streamlined transfers of health information in Oregon are scrambling to keep up. 2010 may not seem like that long ago, but from the perspective of a computer, it’s already the Stone Age. That was the year that the Community Leadership Council of the Archimedes Movement made recommendations on the state’s Strategic Plan for Health Information Exchange, which the federal government approved a few months later.

The Oregon and Southwest Washington local affiliate has received many inquiries regarding Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s national decision to change its granting guidelines and performance criteria. Specifically, the effect these changes will have on Planned Parenthood and other Komen grantees. Komen Oregon is opposed to the new national Komen community grant eligibility policy.
