The ambulance entrance at the hospital in Keokuk, Iowa, has been unused since the facility closed in 2022. Its new owners plan to spruce up and reopen the emergency department in 2024 under a new federal program that pays extra Medicare money to rural hospitals that offer emergency services but no longer have inpatient beds.
