Re: Wyden Praises CDC Opioid Prescribing Guidelines

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain:

“Today’s announcement from the CDC is an important step as the country tries to turn the tide of the opioid epidemic that is carving a path of destruction through our communities,” Wyden said. “Updated recommendations for prescribing these powerful drugs will give doctors better information to prevent people from becoming addicted in the first place. There is still more to be done, and I will be working overtime to find solutions that help the millions of Americans and their families struggling with addiction.”

Wyden previously offered his support for CDC’s guidelines in a February 4, 2016 letter to CDC Director Tom Frieden. More information about CDC’s announcement can be found here.
