WesternU COMP-Northwest to graduate 105 osteopathic physicians

LEBANON, Oregon – Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest (COMP-Northwest) will celebrate its second commencement at 10 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016 at the COMP-Northwest campus, 200 Mullins Drive, Lebanon, Oregon.

At commencement, 105 medical students will be awarded their Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine diplomas. The event will be open to the public; seating will open at 9 a.m.

“This is a very special day in the lives of our graduates,” said Paula M. Crone, DO, Dean of COMP and COMP-Northwest. “Our students have worked hard over the past four years, and have finally reached their goal of becoming physicians. All of us at COMP-Northwest – administration, faculty and staff – are very proud of each and every one of them.”

Lori Sobelson will give the commencement keynote address. Sobelson is director of corporate outreach for Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, based in Milwaukie, Oregon. Bob’s Red Mill is a dedicated supporter of WesternU COMP-Northwest, and of the medical school’s mission.

From the Class of 2016, 53 will complete their residency training in primary care fields, including internal medicine (17), family medicine (25), pediatrics (four), and OB-GYN (seven).

About 65 percent of the Class of 2016 hails from states in the Pacific Northwest. Of the 105 new physicians, 25 will complete their residency training in Oregon and Washington. Of the 25, 10 students will train in Oregon: five in Portland, four in Corvallis, and one in Klamath Falls.
