Wallace Medical Concern Welcomes New Chief Medical Officer

February 22, 2017

GRESHAM, OREGON:  Stuart J. Currie, MD has joined The Wallace Medical Concern (WMC or Wallace) as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Currie will direct all medical services offered by WMC, a non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center that provides a complete, welcoming health home to Rockwood and East Multnomah County residents facing barriers to care.

Wallace is the health provider for a vibrant, culturally diverse yet economically distressed community that faces significant health disparities, such as high rates of diabetes and low child immunization rates. Its innovative approach, made specifically relevant for differing populations, engages families in their own care and includes education, support and resources to improve health.

“Dr. Currie comes to us at a pivotal moment in Wallace’s growth in service to this community,” said Lisa Cline, MPH, the organization’s CEO. “His experience, proven leadership qualities and passion for our mission bring just the right mix as we continue to care for more individuals and families in more ways and in new settings.”

A graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago, Currie did his residency in family practice at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. Following several years as an urgent care and family medicine physician in Nevada and Oregon, he held progressive leadership positions with Tuality Healthcare, serving mostly recently as Chief Medical Officer. Currie’s credentials also include a Master of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.

“It’s a privilege to join this fantastic team,” Currie said. “Through collaboration and innovation I know we’ll continue to expand crucial services in this community.”

WMC is a State of Oregon Tier 3 Patient-Centered Primary Care Home that delivers comprehensive primary, urgent and dental care at its Rockwood campus—and primary and urgent care at its Gresham Clinic and Mobile Medical Clinic. Other services include fully integrated behavioral and mental health care, as well as supports to address cultural, linguistic and financial barriers.
