Volunteers In Medicine Receives $25,000 From Meyer Memorial Trust

January 21, 2015

Bend, Ore. – January 21, 2015 Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) announced today the recent award of a $25,000 grant from Meyer Memorial Trust. The gift will support medical services provided to patients, which include primary and specialty care, prescription medications, mental health care, and basic dental care.

“The award of this grant will allow us to continue to meet the medical needs of low-income, uninsured adults living in Central Oregon,” said Kat Mastrangelo, Executive Director of VIM.

VIM provides healthcare services on a donation basis to working adults who live in the tri-county area and have no access to medical insurance or a means to pay for care.

All of this is made possible through the big-hearted efforts of hundreds of generous donors, more than 500 clinic volunteers, and 400+ medical providers with offices located throughout Central Oregon. Their dedication has helped keep thousands of low-income adults healthy, working, and able to care for their families simply because they have access medical care when they need it.

VIM's patients are age 18 – 64, with the majority having one or more chronic condition such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or mental health diagnoses. All of these conditions are manageable with medical oversight and access to care.

“By 2017, it is estimated that 31 million people will still be uninsured, with 5,300 – 7,300 of those people residing in Central Oregon,” shared Mastrangelo. “VIM will continue to serve the tri-county area for as long as there is a need. We are here to help those that have no other healthcare option.”
