Volunteer Efforts Afford Community with New Private Wheelchair Scale at Legacy Good Samaritan

December 30, 2013

The volunteers of Legacy Good Samaritan recently launched a campaign to raise $2,500 to install a private wheelchair scale in the Emergency Department waiting room. The scale is open to anyone in the community who needs to weigh themselves frequently (congestive heart failure patients, bariatric patients, etc.).

“It’s a way for us to provide a community service and a great way for patients to participate in their health,” said Graham Gentry, manager of the Legacy Good Samaritan Emergency Department.

There will be no need to check in; folks will simply enter through the main doors of the Emergency Department and go to triage room two, which is now solely dedicated for anyone that wants a private place to weigh.  Staff will be available for assistance and support.

Prior to the installation, Legacy Good Samaritan staff had heard from patients who need this type of scale often had to go to the grocery store to use their dock scale.   Legacy Good Samaritan’s new wheelchair scale will allow community members and patients to weigh themselves in a more private, comfortable and convenient setting.

“On behalf of our patients and our community, I would like to personally thank the Legacy Good Samaritan volunteers for this selfless act of kindness, this is a true community resource and it will benefit our patients and the community at large,” said Tony Melaragno, MD, chief administrative officer of Legacy Good Samaritan.
