October 1, 2012 -- The Tuality Healthcare Board of Directors and Providence Health & Services have agreed on a letter of understanding to conduct discussions about an affiliation to provide better preventive and ongoing health care for the communities we serve.

These discussions may include working together to achieve clinical care integration, expanding primary care, developing a package of maternity care services, using telemedicine to deliver care remotely, and improving community health access.

The discussions do not include the sale, transfer of control or governance of Tuality Healthcare facilities and programs to Providence Health & Services or vice versa. While seeking an affiliation that will maximize the delivery of high quality affordable patient care, Tuality Healthcare and Providence Health & Services will remain separate employers and operate independent hospitals.

In the coming weeks, Tuality and Providence executives will meet with community leaders and partners to discuss the affiliation. These talks will ensure that we are providing the proper services to support our communities.

The ultimate goal of this potential affiliation is to provide excellent patient care and achieve excellent health outcomes, while continuing to transform the delivery of health care in the communities we serve. Together, we are committed to building a healthier community.
