March 21, 2013 – Tuality Healthcare has committed $12,500 to support the documentation of community based prevention services offered through Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries in faith communities and neighborhoods across the region, underscoring their support for health reform efforts around local health education and wellness activities.

Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries has contracted for the use of an innovative web-based documentation developed specifically for Faith Community Nursing (FCN) practices by the Henry Ford Macomb Health System in Detroit, Michigan. Henry Ford is partnering with faith community nurse networks around the nation to assess cost savings and avoidance of faith community-based prevention efforts such as support groups, health education classes, exercise programs, as well as individual health counseling, and assistance with appropriate access and navigation of the healthcare system.

Tuality Health System is supporting this effort both through this significant financial contribution, and providing office space for Sandy Madsen, RN, BSN, who serves as the Education Coordinator for Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries. Ms. Madsen will be orientating FCNs in the use of this on-line documentation system throughout in the region. She also coordinates monthly meetings for FCNs in the metro area. Eunice Rech, RN, MS, MSHS, Chief Clinical Office at Tuality Healthcare, is the current Board Chair of NPNM.

Over the past 20 years, more than 2400 RNs have taken the Foundations in Faith Community Nursing course, and congregations of many different denominations have embraced this concept for promoting the health of their community. NPNM will be offering another class at Tuality Healthcare this August.

Tuality Healthcare has provided quality, convenient care for people in western Washington County since 1918. Today, they are the only local, independent, community-governed healthcare system in the area, offering inpatient and outpatient treatment, specialty services, health education, and more.
