Trillium Wins Prevention Hero Award: Partnership, Investment, Commitment

July 15, 2014

It is definitely apparent that Trillium Community Health Plan believes in the power of prevention. In an effort to improve the health of our community, they have invested nearly one million annually in prevention initiatives including programs to prevent two of the biggest healthcare cost drivers: tobacco and obesity.

Lane County Public Health is presenting Trillium with the Prevention Hero Award Tuesday July 8, 9:45 AM at Trillium—1800 Millrace Drive, Eugene OR.

These are just a few of the reasons Lane County believes it is in good hands with Trillium Community Health Plan.

Tobacco Prevention

Trillium has taken an exemplary role in increasing the number of environments where tobacco is prohibited, including their own campus. Due to Trillium’s commitment to tobacco cessation, the percentage of providers providing cessation resources increased by 13%.  Due to Trillium’s commitment to the future health of our community’s children, 156 teachers in Lane County have been trained in the Good Behavior Game. This means 200 more Lane County boys and 150 more girls are predicted to graduate from high school and more Lane County youth are less likely to smoke, use alcohol and drugs, or engage in violent crime.

Obesity Prevention

Trillium has taken a key lead in helping increase the physical health of our children through their local efforts in implementing BMI screening and summer activities to encourage kids to be active.

Access

Through a grant to Lane County Trillium has made possible a brand new Community Health Center location, improving not only access to primary care but also invaluable prevention tools to improve the future health of our OHP population.

“We are honored to receive this award,” says Terry Coplin, Trillium CEO. “Lane County is an important partner in healthcare transformation. We appreciate their support.”
