Trendsetting 55+ Community First Of Its Kind In Oregon, Paves The Way For Future Senior Housing Development

February 5, 2015

Portera at the Grove, a new housing concept for 55-plus community living, and the first of its kind in Oregon, opens its doors in March 2015. Portera promotes a fully integrated way of living that offers new experiences, educational opportunities and wellness programs, all set within the neighborhood of The Grove, a master-planned community in Wilsonville, Oregon. Holland Partner Group is the company leading this innovative project.

Portera will deliver features and amenities that are unique in the senior housing industry. According to Brenner Daniels, Development Director for Holland Development, “This housing choice is distinctive because we’re unbundling services that are typically provided in senior housing, such as those that are medically or meal-service driven.” Daniels adds, “This approach affords those over 55 opportunities to participate in a lifestyle setting at a much lower price point than in communities that require residents to purchase meals and services as a requirement to move in,” he says.

The interior features 112 spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom condo-style apartment homes ranging in size from 785 to 1,490 square feet. “Our homes, on average, are larger than those available (elsewhere) in the market,” says Daniels. “We’ve also taken finishes to the next level, including stainless steel appliances, quartz surfaces and gourmet style kitchens.” Various parking options are available, including garages with direct access to the building, and there is plenty of storage available for residents.

While some 55-plus communities offer amenities, they’re not typically internal amenities, requiring residents to leave their homes or communities to enjoy them. “One of our most unique amenities is a 5,000 square foot elevated sky deck,” states Daniels. The sky deck, an ideal gathering space for residents, features an outdoor kitchen, community garden beds, a bocci court, putting green, fireplace and outdoor seating.

The Portera brand actively supports residents’ unique interests and underscores a commitment to helping each resident attain a strong sense of purpose. Daniels describes Portera living as “Celebrating the opportunity to welcome a new housing and social alternative that better reflects the modern senior lifestyle. ”

“Activity, socialization and wellness are core components to the Portera culture,” adds

Daniels. Theater and hobby rooms, a community room with full kitchen and double- sided fireplace opening to the aforementioned sky deck, billiards and card rooms, and massage and fitness rooms all are located internally at Portera. The community is situated within a park-like setting just east
of I-5 near Wilsonville’s Town Center, which
contains numerous retail and entertainment options. Miles of green spaces and nearby bicycling and pedestrian trails surround Portera, and residents are just a 20-minute drive to downtown Portland.

With a new housing choice that is centered around community, Portera at The Grove enables residents to capitalize on all the benefits of living in the Northwest. Whether it’s a round of golf, a bike ride, nature walks, or exploring Oregon’s wine country, activities are right outside each resident’s door.
