TODAY: OHEA to Award Legislative Leadership for Health Equity

The Oregon Health Equity Alliance (OHEA), a statewide coalition of over 40 organizations working to eliminate barriers and improve equity and health for all Oregonians, will rally on the Capitol Steps today at 11:30 AM to celebrate legislative accomplishments and present OHEA Leadership Awards to key legislators for their successful efforts in 2016.

“Oregon continues to lead the way with innovative solutions to the uninsured and addressing the root causes of inequities and discrimination,” says Rev. Joseph Santos-Lyons, Executive Director of APANO and member of the OHEA Steering Committee, adding, “OHEA has made concrete progress towards our Mend the Gap goals, with support from Republicans and Democrats.”

Key measures passed in 2016 include:

HB 4017 Basic Health Blueprint Bill

HB 4003 End Profiling Bill

Healthcare access budget investments for children and families

What: The Oregon Health Equity Alliance (OHEA) will hold a rally on the Capitol Steps celebrating key 2016 legislative wins and recognize key legislative leaders for health equity on Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 at 11:30 AM.

Speakers will highlight successful legislation advancing solutions to Oregon’s 383,000 uninsured, and policies to strengthen Oregon’s social determinants of health.  Over 100 community activists from across Oregon will be joined by Governor Kate Brown to present awards to Speaker Tina Kotek, Senator Alan Bates, Representative Andy Olson, Representative Vic Gilliam, Representative Alissa Keny-Guyer, and Representative Lew Frederick.  Later, Governor Brown will sign the COFA Healthcare Premium Assistance Bill (HB 4071) at 1:40 PM in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office.
