Three Oregon Universities Select PacificSource Health Plans To Provide Health Insurance To Students, Scholarships And Dependents

September 10, 2015

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.)—Citing value and the opportunity to partner with a responsive local company, three public universities in Oregon have chosen Springfield-based PacificSource Health Plans to provide health insurance to students.

Graduate and undergraduate students, visiting scholars as well as some dependents at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland State University and the University of Oregon are eligible for health coverage through PacificSource when fall semester begins.

“Health is integral to student success and Portland State is committed to offering a high quality affordable health insurance plan to our students,” said Dana Tasson, executive director of PSU’s Center for Student Health and Counseling. “PacificSource Health Plans offers competitive pricing, a local presence in our state, strong ties to community providers, and an understanding of the needs of students.”

All plans include the highest benefit level when seeking services on campus, extended customer service hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (September through February), a custom website for each university, and dedicated customer service phone numbers for each university.

“The University of Oregon and PacificSource have been great partners in many different endeavors. Having PacificSource as our comprehensive insurance plan for our students helps to ensure our students get the best coverage for their individual needs,” said Mike Eyster, Senior Associate Vice President of Student Life, and Executive Director of the University Health Center at the University of Oregon.

PacificSource was selected for the 2015-16 school year following an RFP bid process initiated by each university.  Student health plans at other public universities in Oregon were not up for bid or renewal this year, but PacificSource intends on responding to additional public university bid opportunities if/when they become available.

“Each university is unique and has different needs, and the value that PacificSource brings is our ability to be a local partner to them in every sense of the word,” said Troy Kirk, Senior Vice President of Group Sales for PacificSource. “Being local allows us to respond to the specific needs of each university, while allowing us to connect with students right at their front door.”
