November 16, 2011 – Joshua Cook, D.O., medical director of the emergency department at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville was recognized as the Medical Director of the Year for TeamHealth’s Northwest division at a reception on Oct. 14. The reception was held in San Francisco in conjunction with the American College of Emergency Physicians Annual Scientific Assembly.

Dr. Cook was selected from among 30 emergency department medical directors and assistant medical directors in eight states throughout the Northwest for his exceptional leadership in improving the level of emergency care for the Prineville community. Dr. Cook joined the emergency department at Pioneer in 1992, bringing more than 23 years of experience gained at hospitals in Ohio and Oregon after beginning his career in 1988.

“Dr. Cook clearly defines excellence as providing compassionate and expedited care to his patients,” said Mark Harris, M.D., President of Northwest Emergency Physicians of TeamHealth. “He executed his ideas for creating ED centers of excellence by first ensuring that his patients experienced a ‘no wait’ ED. After achieving stellar metrics at his facility, he deployed physician rounding and AIDET within his department, ultimately leading to his facility having top box patient satisfaction scores.

Finally, given Dr. Cook’s passion for working in a system where all EDs are centers of excellence, he secured appointment to the system’s board of directors where he could better support all of the system’s medical directors and nurse managers as they collectively pursued excellence in their respective facilities. Therefore, it is our distinct pleasure to recognize Dr. Cook for his efforts at Pioneer Memorial Hospital and the St. Charles Health System in Oregon.”

Through the Medical Director of the Year awards, TeamHealth’s Medical Advisory Board recognizes medical directors who raise the bar for leadership. Winners from the six regions are selected from more than 400 of their peers in hospital emergency departments staffed and managed by TeamHealth nationwide. The 6,600 healthcare professionals affiliated with TeamHealth collectively care for more than 1,000 patients an hour.
