SURVEY: Since 2013, 15.5 Million Fewer Adults Are Uninsured

May 25, 2016

New survey data show that, as of March 2016, 15.5 million fewer adults between 18 and 64 are uninsured compared to September 2013 (a 43.8% reduction). The data are compiled through the Health Reform Monitoring Survey with funding from the Urban Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This survey marks the lowest level of uninsured adults since the survey began in 2013.

In addition to the national numbers, the survey finds that the percentage of uninsured adults in states that didn’t expand Medicaid (14.1%) is nearly double that of states that did expand Medicaid eligibility (7.3%).

"A single digit uninsurance rate is a great achievement," said Kathy Hempstead of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. "Significant progress has been made toward meeting the ACA's most fundamental objective."
