It is with great pleasure that Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility announces our sixth annual Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship. Any 11th or 12th grade Oregon high school student may enter by submitting an original essay, poem, or narrative work (maximum 600 words) in response to the following question: “What can young people do to create a more healthy, just and peaceful world?” We are sponsoring this writing scholarship in order to encourage Oregon’s youth to consider their unique role in promoting a more healthy, just and peaceful world. Please help us in announcing this opportunity to all 11th and 12th grade students and their teachers, counseling departments, student and parent groups, and school officials you may know. We very much appreciate your help in spreading the word about this scholarship opportunity. Submissions may be sent by email (preferred) or postal mail and are due by 5:00 PM on Friday, March 7th, 2014. A panel of judges comprised of local writers, activists and distinguished community members will select the winning entries. The first prize winner will receive a scholarship award of $1,000, the second $750 and the third $500. Students can download the entry form and read all peace writing scholarship details, including additional writing prompts and links to useful resources, on our website. Oregon PSR will host an awards ceremony on Friday, April 25th at 6:00 PM at the Ecotrust Building in Portland at which the scholarship winners will be honored. Download the scholarship flyer, or find us on Facebook, and help us spread the word.
