Step & Spine PT Continues Growth, Hires Fourth Physical Therapist

January 8, 2014

Step & Spine Physical Therapy owner and lead physical therapist, Barrett Ford, PT, recently announced the hiring of a fourth physical therapist to his practice, which offers physical therapy services at sites in both Sisters and Redmond. Peter Schrey, DPT, OCC, CSCS, began seeing clients at the start of 2014, the latest addition to a private physical therapy practice that has experienced a tremendous amount of growth over the last 18 months.

September of 2012 saw the hiring of a second physical therapist, Glenn MacLean-Talbot, BS, MSPT, DPT, and the opening of Step & Spine’s Redmond location. Then in March of 2013, Step & Spine expanded its Sisters facility 10-fold before adding a third physical therapist, Molly Nelson, DPT, to the practice three months later.

According to Ford, hiring a fourth PT was a natural step in the continuing growth of Step & Spine Physical Therapy.

“We have been looking for a physical therapist to accommodate our growth, who had plenty of clinical experience, and who has continued to expand their knowledge with post-graduate education,” Barrett said. “We were also, just as importantly, looking for a caring, compassionate individual – someone who’s passionate about helping people.”

Schrey was the ideal fit, Ford added. He has eight years of experience practicing physical therapy, the last six at Eugene Physical Therapy in Eugene. Since receiving his doctorate in PT from Regis University in Denver in 2005, Schrey became Board Certified in Orthopedics (OCS, 2011), became a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS, 2005), and has completed more than 500 hours of post-graduate continuing education.

While working in Eugene, Schrey also regularly volunteered his professional skills at national and world track and field events as well as public and municipal workshops. He also served as a mentor for University of Oregon physical therapy students four out of the last six years.

“I like to take every opportunity I can to make people aware of what physical therapy can do for treating chronic pain, injury, and on the preventative side of things – how a PT can be there for a patient, helping them get back to the life they love, doing all the things they enjoy doing,” Schrey said.

Schrey enjoys the eclectic approach to physical therapy – a personal, wide-based approach, he says, that blends mechanical, manual and functional therapy “guided by evidence-based medicine so the client can achieve maximum wellness.” Peter will work primarily in Step & Spine Physical Therapy’s Sisters office.
