State Leaders to Ask Oregon Senate to Pass Contribution Limits

Elected leaders believe this is the best opportunity for campaign finance reform
April 17, 2015

The Senate Rules Committee will hold a public hearing on Senate Joint Resolution 5, a constitutional amendment allowing for contribution limits to political candidates.  Governor Brown will join Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins and Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian in calling on the Senate in to pass SJR 5.  Also speaking in favor will be Brown’s 2012 opponent for Secretary of State, Rep. Knute Buehler, along with Rep. Peter Buckley, and Senators Floyd Prozanski and Elizabeth Steiner Hayward.

What: Senate Rules Committee public hearing on Senate Joint Resolution 5 and Senate Bill 75 (the bill that sets out the limits).  This is a hearing open to the public.

Who:   Governor Kate Brown

Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins
Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian
Senator Floyd Prozanski
Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward
Representative Knute Buehler

Representative Peter Buckley

Fmr. Multnomah County Commissioner Beverly Stein
Organizational Representatives and constituents also expected to testify

When: Tuesday April 21st, at 3:00 pm

Where: Hearing Room C, Oregon State Legislature, 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301

Why:   Support passage of contribution limits for political candidates.  Oregon is one of only six states to have no limits.  In December Kate Brown sought to change that by introducing SJR 5, one of the most significant reforms working through the legislature.
