SE PORTLAND – Rosewood Family Health Center (Rosewood) is recognizing National Community Health Center Week, August 13-20, by encouraging parents to schedule a well child check/sports physical for their kids. The event is being held on August 17, between 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Rosewood is also planning a children’s focused health fair at the clinic on that day. The staff at Rosewood feel strongly about setting aside this time on the 17th to recognize the importance of children’s health and well-being, and to ensure that kids in Portland have access to a health check-up before school starts in the fall.
This is a great opportunity to talk with your health care provider, ask a registered dietitian about a lingering nutrition issue your child is dealing with, or speak with a behavioral health consultant about anxiety your child is feeling about going back to school. It’s an important and easy appointment to make to check on your child’s overall well-being.
“Well child checks are one of the foundational aspects of our medical system. In the first few years of life they provide the opportunity for health care providers, both pediatricians and family practitioners, to perform developmental screens, make sure children are adequately immunized, provide anticipatory guidance, and firmly establish relationships with both the patient and the family which can last a lifetime,” said Chief Medical Officer Kevin Heidrick, PA-C.
Heidrick went on to say, “as the child grows, our focus shifts, but continuing to provide anticipatory guidance and counseling remain critical elements of healthy adolescent development into early adulthood. Many of the major health issues that we deal with in adulthood (i.e. Diabetes, Obesity, Tobacco Use) have their roots in what was learned during childhood. Frequent contact with parents and their children allow health care providers to guide children into developing healthy habits which in turn will contribute to them being healthier adults.”
Rosewood will be open for well child checks and sports physicals on August 17, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, and is located at 8935 SE Powell Blvd. in Portland. Call (503) 772-4335 to schedule an appointment. If you are unavailable to schedule on August 17, our scheduling coordinators will assist you with finding an alternative appointment time.
