“Repairing The World” Award Dinner to Honor Kaiser Permanente

September 20, 2013

Sept 19, 2013 – The Oregon Area Jewish Committee (OAJC) will present their Human Relations Award to Kaiser Permanente at a dinner Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower Grand Ballroom. The award is presented to business leaders and corporations who demonstrate their commitment to our community and embody the Jewish  ideal of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). OAJC has chosen Kaiser Permanente for their ongoing commitment to the welfare of  society.     Recent Kaiser Permanente programs that demonstrate Tikkun Olam range from free clinics staffed by their physicians and dentists; promoting school programs that educate students on healthier eating and more cohesive playtime in schools; sponsoring Portland’s Sunday Parkways to bring families and neighborhoods together with a healthy activity.  Kaiser Permanente encourages employees to get involved in their communities by creating volunteer opportunities and making grant funding available to qualified nonprofit organizations to which Kaiser Permanente employees dedicate their time.   “Kaiser Permanente demonstrates historical and ongoing leadership in performing the mitzvot (good deeds) that embody the essence of Tikkun Olam. We are especially grateful of the ongoing leadership and dedication of Kaiser Permanente leader and OAJC board member Eliana S. Temkin whose time and dedication has been an invaluable asset to the promise and mission of our organization and the community,” said OAJC President Elise Brickner-Schulz.   Kaiser Permanente delivers on its promise to make high-quality, affordable, and fully integrated health care services widely available — as a leader in preventive care and as a center of excellence in treating serious health conditions. Kaiser Permanente Northwest’s more than 10,000 employees and 1,000 physicians deliver market-leading cancer care, cardiovascular and orthopedic outcomes while leading the region in diabetes screening, patient safety and quality. Kaiser Permanente Northwest is positioned as a leading philanthropic organization in the Northwest.    “Our mission is to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve and keep them healthy and out of medical clinics and hospitals,” said Jeffrey Weisz, MD, president and executive medical director of Northwest Permanente Medical Group. “We live our promise of Tikkun Olam every day by fulfilling our mission through the practice of prevention-based medicine.”    Event Details: “Repairing the World”: The 2013 OAJC Human Relations Award Dinner Honoring Kaiser Permanente Date:   Wednesday, October 9, 2013, 6:00–9:00 PM Location:  Hilton Portland & Executive Tower Grand Ballroom Keynote address:   Dr. Bruce Goldberg, Oregon Health Authority Co-chairs: Thomas Aschenbrener and Wally Van Valkenburg For reservations and sponsorship information, visit oajconline.org/human-relations-award   About The Oregon Area Jewish Committee: OAJC has held a presence in our community for over 30 years, building bridges and  coalitions between the Jewish community in the Portland region and various religious and ethnic groups.
