Press Release: Reminder: Oregon Call To Action On Climate, Health, And Equity - Add Your Name And Share!

January 14, 2020

We are joining voices across our nation and the world to make it known that climate change is a health emergency. As Oregon’s leading health professionals and organizations—representing public health, health care, health systems, and community health organizations—we call on Oregon leaders to prioritize these recommendations to protect the health of Oregonians.

Join the Coalition of Local Health Officials, Oregon Public Health Institute, OSU College of Public Health, Health Care for All Oregon, and the growing list of partners:

Add your name and/or organization to Oregon's Call to Action on Climate, Health, and Equity!

What is the Call to Action on Climate, Health, and Equity?  This is a statement that climate change is creating health risks in Oregon and a broad set of recommendations specifically aimed at improving health and health equity. It is not an endorsement of any specific legislation.

Who should sign?  Individuals (students and workers) and organizations. We need people at all levels working in public health, health care, health systems, and community health to sign on.  Are you part of a health group or organization that would like to endorse the Call to Action? Let us know if we can help with that. Share this opportunity widely!

When should you sign?  Today! We hope to gather 1,000 signatures by February 4, 2020, when we plan to present the list to Oregon lawmakers. We will then have conversations with legislators on February 6th, during OPHA Public Health Advocacy Day at the Capitol. Hope some of you can join us!

Why should you/your organization sign?  A showing of support from so many people and organizations working to improve health in Oregon is significant and can make a real impact on policy makers at all levels. Your support strengthens and legitimizes climate change as a health emergency and encourages policy makers to take our recommendations seriously.

Where can you or your organization sign on? On the OPHA website

Please share this Call to Action with your public health colleagues! You do not have to be an OPHA member to sign or share the Call to Action.
