At Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Portland, Oregon a transformation in caring for kids is occurring. Inside the striking glass building family-centered care and an environment designed for healing are changing the way kids and their parents think about hospitals. This fall, the hospital welcomed its new leader, Chief Administrative Officer Mady Murrey, M.N., BSN.
After 30 years in pediatric health care in Washington, most recently as the Chief Operating Officer atMultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Tacoma, Murrey is now leading Randall Children’s Hospital. She is continuing her passion for caring for children, building relationships with communities and physicians and excelling in patient safety and service excellence.
Caring for kids does not come without major challenges. The current generation of children is the first generation who is projected to have a shorter life span than their parents. Children are grappling with chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure and are not participating in physical activities at the level of their parents and grandparents.
Facing those challenges Murrey maintains, “Our responsibility is to hand off the healthiest generation of adults we can.”

Murrey succeeds Randall Children’s Hospital’s retiring Chief Administrative Officer of 16 years, Carla Harris, R.N. Harris’s dedication resulted in the building of the current children’s hospital on the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus, which is four times the size of the former hospital with nine floors and 165 beds.
Randall Children’s Hospital has been caring for kids for more than 60 years and is one of Oregon’s largest providers of pediatric inpatient and trauma services and opened its new hospital in February 2012. Randall Children's Hospital has a medical staff of more than 600 physicians, including pediatric medical and surgical specialists, sub-specialists, hospitalists and community pediatricians. Randall Children's Hospital receives more than 137,000 annual patient visits.
