Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel hosts photo exhibit for Children's Hospital Association

February 9, 2016

(Portland, OR) -- A photograph commissioned by Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel was selected for the 2015 Children's Hospitals Photo Exhibit, a national competition administered by the Children's Hospital Association. Hosting throughout February in the hospital lobby, the exhibit, comprised of powerful images of brave patients, supportive families and compassionate health care providers, celebrates children's hospitals' commitment to the health of all children.

Randall Children's Hospital's photo was chosen from more than 250 photographs submitted by 57 children's hospitals across the country by a distinguished panel of judges representing Parents magazine, The Exposure Group, The National Portrait Gallery, American University's School of Communications and the Children's Hospitals Today editorial advisory group.

The photo titled Leave the Past Behind shows 18-year-old Marta Nunez using art therapy to work through her frustrations and visualize her future. Randall Children's Hospital's photo stood out for its all-around excellence, composition and ability to relay what makes children's hospitals unique.

Chief Administrative Officer of Randall Children's Hospital Bronwyn Houston says, "Randall Children's Hospital is honored to have a photo chosen in and to be able to host the 2015 Children's Hospitals Photo Exhibit. Our photo depicts art therapy, which uses the creative art process in evaluating and treating pediatric patients who naturally use art to express themselves."

Marta suffered a spinal cord injury resulting from a car crash and persevered through months of rehabilitation at Randall Children's Hospital. She had this to say about art therapy, "I put my heart and soul into art therapy. It took my mind off of all of my problems."

The Children's Hospitals Photo Exhibit will be on display to the general public at Randall Children's Hospital February 5 through 29 in the lobby of the hospital.
