Pro-Kid Agenda Creates Road Map to Better Future for Oregon’s Children

2015 Children’s Agenda highlight gains Oregon can make if children's health, safety, and education are prioritized
March 2, 2015

Portland, Ore. – United for Kids released the 2015 Children’s Agenda today, providing a road map toward making Oregon the best place to be a kid. The Agenda compiles the best thinking of over 60 pro-child advocacy organizations and coalitions and makes clear to legislators what Oregon’s children need.

“For too long, Oregon has failed its children,” says Children First for Oregon Executive Director Tonia Hunt. “Too little investment in our children’s future has left us with one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation and more than 1 in 5 children in poverty. Only by holding elected officials accountable and expecting real progress for children will we see the critical public investments necessary to make Oregon the best place to be kid.”

The 2015 Children’s Agenda is an unprecedented overview of the work of Oregon’s leading child and family advocates and policy solutions for kids.

“All children—especially children of color—continue to face significant barriers to opportunity,” said Nancy Weed, Coordinator at the Oregon Health Equity Alliance. “It’s time to work together as a community of advocates to break down those barriers. The 2015 Children’s Agenda is a comprehensive list of solutions that will help achieve that goal.”

As the convener and coordinator of United for Kids, Children First is bringing together a diverse group of voters, child and family advocates, businesses, labor groups, funders, faith communities, and elected leaders to speak with a unified voice for kids. United for Kids connects and amplifies the collective voice of pro-child Oregonians and organizations to promote public policy change and shared investments that benefit children’s health, safety, education and economic security.
