Workshop Description

Workshop provides an overview of the systems and processes involved in medicine discovery, development and evaluation; a discussion of national and state healthcare perspectives; and reinforces how organized consumer advocacy can play a major role in shaping policy decisions, recommending improvements and building broad-based support for issues.

By the end of the day participants will be able to:

  • Understand the steps of the scientific process associated with medicine discovery, development, and regulatory evaluation.
  • Describe the importance and involvement of advocacy groups in medicine development, review and clinical trials.
  • Understand the policy-making process to support public policies and health care decisions that speed the development of new medicines, assure treatments respond to the needs and qualities of individual patients and improve access to the most effective treatments.
