Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2014 on a 17,000-square-foot sports medicine center on the campus of Oregon State University.
The facility, the result of years of collaboration between OSU and Samaritan Health Services, will serve the university community and the general public. It will be located across from the Truax Indoor Practice Facility on SW 30th St. Clinic operations will be led by Douglas Aukerman, M.D., a sports medicine physician who serves as Director of Sports Medicine for Samaritan Health Services and Senior Associate Athletic Director/Sports Medicine at OSU.
The center will provide diagnostic and treatment services, and serve as a site for student internships, training and research. Samaritan will build and operate the facility on land leased from OSU.
“This project will enhance the university’s academic and research mission, particularly in the areas of athletic training and exercise and sports science,” said Ed Ray, president of Oregon State University. “We are fortunate to have a comprehensive health care partner in our community that offers board-certified and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialists, as well as a broad complement of professional staff and support for training and research.”
Larry Mullins, Samaritan Health Services’ president/CEO, said the center builds upon a long partnership between the two organizations.
“This facility represents a significant enhancement of the services that we can provide for the university community as well as the general public,” Mullins said. “We are also pleased to be able to partner with OSU on additional research projects and student educational experiences.”
Howard S. Wright is the general contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion in late 2014.
