Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette Opens Milwaukie Health Center

October 1, 2015

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette is returning to Clackamas County this week with the opening of a new health center in Milwaukie-Oak Grove. The 3,600-square-foot facility is located in a building formerly occupied by Great Taste Restaurant at 14411 SE McLoughlin Blvd.

The Milwaukie-Oak Grove Health Center will provide critically needed health services to as many as 7,000 Clackamas County residents annually. It is home to nine exam rooms, a counseling room and a lab, offering a full range of sexual and reproductive healthcare services, including:

* Birth control
* HIV testing
* Lifesaving cancer screenings
* STD testing and treatment
* Breast health services
* Annual exams
* Health counseling and education and community outreach

According to the 2012 edition of "Clackamas County Family Planning Facts," the region is home to more than 18,000 women and girls who may require public assistance for services to avoid unintended pregnancies, based on their age and income status. The region is also undergoing a changing demographic pattern: Aging baby boomers, combined with a spike in birth rates, will result in an increased demand for health care for the foreseeable future ("Clackamas County Economic Landscape," 2012).

"For more than 50 years, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette has proudly provided high-quality, low-cost care in Oregon and Southwest Washington," said Stacy M. Cross, President and CEO of PPCW. "The vast majority of our patients are young people 18-34, many of whom are engaging with the healthcare system for the first time and focused on maintaining their overall health and well-being."

Milwaukie City Councilor Lisa Batey added: "When women are healthier, families are healthier. And when families are healthier, communities are healthier. I'm thrilled to welcome Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette to our area."

The Milwaukie-Oak Grove Health Center is conveniently located close to TriMet bus routes 29, 32, 33 and 34 and within a mile of the MAX Orange Line. To make an appointment, call 888.576.PLAN (7526).
