Patients Highly Satisfied at Independent Pharmacies, Readers of Consumer Reports Say

Independents Garner Top Reader Scores in Speed, Accuracy, Helpfulness
January 31, 2014

Readers of Consumer Reports magazine gave independent community pharmacies high marks for overall customer satisfaction and the best ratings of any pharmacy provider in key categories such as “speed and accuracy”; “courtesy and helpfulness”; and “pharmacists’ knowledge,” according to the publication’s pharmacy survey, featured in the March 2014 issue of the magazine.

Patients at independent pharmacies reported shorter wait times and a greater likelihood that independents would have medication in stock, compared to some other pharmacy options.

“Patients come first for independent community pharmacists and it’s encouraging to see that their efforts are noted and appreciated in this survey,” said National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) CEO B. Douglas Hoey, RPh, MBA. “We congratulate America’s independent pharmacists on this milestone and look forward to continuing to support their efforts to support medication adherence, improve patient health and reduce overall health costs.”

Independent community pharmacies are consistently recognized in national consumer surveys for providing superlative customer service. Locally owned and operated franchisees ofGood Neighbor PharmacyHealth Mart and The Medicine Shoppe® received the highest customer satisfaction rating from patients in their category of the J.D. Power 2013 Pharmacy Study™. In addition, the Pharmacy Satisfaction™ patient survey sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. reported similar findings.

Independent community pharmacies are also known for meeting individual patient needs through the provision of niche services such as same-day home delivery; compounding customized medications; durable medical equipment; medication synchronization; disease state management programs; and immunizations.
