Panel Weighs Vaccine Outlook

October 1, 2020

Three experts spoke about the global effort for a COVID-19 vaccine and what it means for Oregonians at a virtual event hosted by the Oregon Health Forum, a non-profit affiliate of The Lund Report.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, public health officials, medical providers and the public have pinned their hopes on a vaccine to return life back to normal. Public health officials expect face masks and social distancing to continue indefinitely until a vaccine is on hand to fight COVID-19.

A vaccine is unlikely to emerge until 2021, even as pharmaceutical companies and the federal government work to fast-track the process during a pandemic. Usually, it takes years to develop a vaccine and get it on the market after research and clinical trials.
