(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.)—In recognition of its philanthropic efforts and company-wide commitment to giving back to thecommunities in which they serve, the Oregon Bankers Association has awarded PacificSource Health Plans its 2014 Community Applause Award. The Community Applause Award includes a $1,000 check to be donated to the nonprofit charity of the recipient’s choice. PacificSource selected FOOD for Lane County, which is dedicated to eliminating hunger by creating access to food for residents ofLane County.

“When we say we want to be part of the communities we serve, it’s not just about giving money,” said Sujata Sanghvi, executive vice president and chief operating officer for PacificSource. “It’s really about participating in our community, getting our hands dirty and getting involved. We are really humbled and excited to receive this award. We hope it’s a reflection of the work that we’re trying to do.”

Nominated by Brooke Garcia, vice president and professional banking officer for Bend-based Bank of the Cascades, PacificSource was honored in the category for businesses with 50 or more employees. Founded in 1996, the award gives Oregon banks an opportunity to nominate their business customers in recognition for service in the community. An independent panel of judges then reviews each nomination and selects onewinner annually in each award category (businesses with more than 50 employees and business with less than 50 employees).

“PacificSource has a long history and reputation of taking great care of people,” said Garcia. “Between the organization’s charitable contributions and the employees’ donations and volunteer hours, PacificSource makes a big impact on the communities they serve.”

This year alone, PacificSource has granted nearly $500,000 to support organizations providing access to high quality healthcare, improving community health and lowering costs across the healthcare system. In addition, PacificSource is committed to supporting the philanthropic efforts of its employees through its Healthy Communities Program, which provides financial support, in-kind donations and employee volunteer assistance. Last year, this initiative supported more than 125 organizations, and PacificSource employees logged some 660 volunteers hours.

A ceremony to present the Community Applause Award took place on December 8, and included videos about each award recipient, which can be viewed online at oregonbankers.com/community/applause-awards.
