PORTLAND, ORE. – The Oregon Center for Nursing (OCN) recently released an update of it’s “I Am an Oregon Nurse” infographic, providing updated information on the diversity represented in Oregon’s largest health care profession.
“There are more than 41,000 registered nurses who work in Oregon, which represents an increase of 6 percent since 2014,” said OCN Executive Director, Jana R. Bitton, MPA. “The increase of nurses is needed, particularly as we project a shortage of nurses over the next several years. We are constantly analyzing the most up-to-date information available on the workforce, so we can see how it is evolving and changing.”
The “I Am an Oregon Nurse” infographic displays key information, including gender, education level, median salary, work settings and practice specialties. “There have been some significant changes since 2014,” said Bitton. “More than half of Oregon’s nurses now have a baccalaureate degree or higher, and the percent of nurses working in hospital settings have gone down.”
