Oregon Nurses Association Names University Faculty Member and Long-Time Oncology Nurse as Professional Services Director

Carl G. Brown, PhD, RN, AOCN®, FAAN, joined the Oregon Nurse’s Association (ONA) Monday, March 3, 2014 as the association’s Professional Services Director. Dr. Brown’s responsibilities will include strategic planning and the implementation of state-wide programs and activities that advance the work of the ONA in the areas of nursing practice, education and research.

 

Brown is an immediate past-president of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), a major nursing organization with 37,000 members. He holds a PhD in Cancer Nursing Research from the University of Utah, a Master’s Degree as an Advance Practice Nurse from the University of Pennsylvania and is also a recent inductee as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). Brown also served as a Clinical Nurse Educator, Clinical Head Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, prior to retiring at a rank of Major.

Carl’s experience conducting research, teaching in nationally renowned facilities and his 20-year career practicing as a nurse will help us further those efforts. Carl’s expertise will also allow us to expand our focus on supporting our members in providing evidence-based care.”

 

The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) was founded in 1904 as the professional association 
for nurses in Oregon. It is a nonprofit association and a labor union representing registered nurses. ONA’s mission is to advocate for nursing and quality health care.
