Oregon Medicaid Waiver Secured for Thousands of Oregonians

January 13, 2017

For years, Oregon has been a leader in health care transformation. Through these advancements we have seen the lives of Oregonians transformed by simply having access to dignified and quality health care coverage through the Oregon Health Plan. Governor Kate Brown announced today that Oregon’s Medicaid Waiver will be renewed for another five years.

“We applaud the efforts of Governor Brown and her administration for their foresight and diligence to secure continued coverage for more than 1 million low income Oregonians. This leadership will help prevent needless suffering for thousands of working Oregonians,” said Alberto Moreno, Executive Director of Oregon Latino Health Coalition.

Access to care has improved dramatically with over 95% of Oregonians and 98% of children receiving coverage. Securing the Oregon Medicaid Waiver means safeguarding the health care that more than 1 in 4 Oregonians depend on.  As a result, many in our community are able to receive the care they need for the first time in their lives. This means that mothers will continue be able to have access to prenatal care throughout their pregnancy-- ensuring a healthier first start to a child’s life. Additionally, through our Coordinated Care model, Oregonians will continue to see preventive health care services as a cornerstone to their health.

We commend Governor Brown in her efforts to ensure this key win for Oregonians. Over the next five years we look forward to seeing better health and care in our communities across the state.
