Oregon Health Authority awards the first-ever prestigious 3 STAR clinic award in Enterprise

November 24, 2015

Winding Waters Clinic in Enterprise has been recognized by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) as a trail blazer in health system transformation.

The clinic is one of more than 560 in Oregon recognized by OHA as Patient-Centered Primary Care Homes (PCPCHs). A PCPCH is a health care clinic recognized for being patient-centered, comprehensive, team-based, coordinated, accessible, and focused on quality and safety. Winding Waters Clinic has been a PCPCH since 2011 and became the first to receive the new 3 STAR designation from OHA's Patient-Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) program.

“The mission and vision of Winding Waters Clinic is to provide excellent, comprehensive, compassionate, patient-centered care to the families and visitors of Wallowa County,” said Elizabeth Powers, M.D., a Winding Waters physician. “The clinic is a place where patients and staff feel welcomed and empowered to improve both individual health and the delivery of health care. This is a place where they relentlessly pursue improvement in the health of all of Wallowa County.”

The 3 STAR designation was created to distinguish clinics that have implemented truly transformative processes into their work using the PCPCH model framework and recommended best practices. At Winding Waters Clinic this work includes expanded hours Monday through Saturday, a Patient Advisory Council that advises the clinic on its operations and behavioral health coaches for their patients.

Winding Waters Clinic’s commitment to their rural community extends beyond the clinic walls. Clinic staff actively seeks out community partnership opportunities to continue their transformation work, allowing the clinic to positively impact the health of their community.  Winding Waters Clinic has partnered with Building Healthy Families to improve early literacy levels by participating in the national Reach Out and Read program. The clinic also created a lending library in their waiting room for both children and adults.
