Oregon Board of Pharmacy Selects New Executive

January 16, 2014
The Oregon Board of Pharmacy today announced the hiring of Marcus Watt as the Board’s  executive director, effective Feb. 3. Appointed by the seven- member board with approval by Governor Kitzhaber, Watt assumes responsibility for the overall direction of the agency that supports the Board’s mission – to promote, preserve and protect Oregonians by regulating the quality, manufacture, sale and distribution of drugs in the state.     The 2009 Pharmacist of the Year, as voted by the Oregon State Pharmacy Association, Watt brings more than three decades of experience in Oregon’s pharmaceutical industry to the position – working his way from a staff pharmacist, to a supervisor of pharmacy systems, to a buying coordinator, to a regional manager. Along the way Watt gained valuable experience working directly with clients, developing regulatory controls and business operations, and supervising a wide array of employees.    “We’re thrilled to have such an experienced and accomplished executive,” noted Board Chair Penny Reher. “Marcus brings a deep knowledge of our pharmaceutical system. That knowledge and his commitment to a healthy Oregon will serve him well as we work to ensure a safe and supportive system for all Oregonians.”    Learn more about the Oregon Board of Pharmacy at: www.pharmacy.state.or.us
